The effort that Metacritic launched 13 years ago is still going strong, and it highlights the operations of game publishers while examining the reception that their creations have received. Sony PlayStation Interactive Entertainment is now in a position to take full advantage of its leadership after suffering its final loss in its battle against the juggernaut from Redmond.
A year ago, members of the PlayStation community had no need to be concerned about the scarcity of attractions. In addition to a large number of products making their debut on a variety of platforms, players had access to a number of interesting productions such as God of War Ragnarok, Horizon: Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7, Uncharted: The Legacy of Thieves Collection, or Stray. The vast majority of these titles were met with positive reception, which is evidence that the activities of the Japanese industry giant have not gone unnoticed.
The Metacritic portal has been in operation for more than a dozen years, during which time it has not only assessed the scores of debuting games given by industry reviewers and the gaming community but has also brought attention to the operations of specific publishers. The most recent poll was easily won by Sony, which was voted the greatest publisher of 2022. Paradox Interactive and Activision Blizzard came in second and third, respectively.
The individuals responsible for compiling the list took into consideration four primary aspects: the average Metascore for all of the games that were released in 2022, the proportion of games that were rated extremely well, the percentage of games that were reviewed negatively (but solely by reviewers), and the number of titles that enjoyed a “great” reception. It’s interesting to see that Microsoft wasn’t even considered for the ranking. The previous year was not very bountiful for the company that won the most recent iteration of the tournament; the Americans only released four games, despite the fact that the requirement for taking part in the competition was to make at least five titles available on the market.
