Rollerdrome is a new third-person shooter being developed by Roll7. The company has now published the first Dev Video for the game, which combines roller skating with beautiful gunplay. Jacob Mills, a senior 3D level designer, and John Ribbins, the studio creative director, discuss the game’s level design and the general flow of the game in this conversation.
It has been described as a “skating game where you’re not just skating” and a “shooting game where you’re not just shooting.” Rollerdrome combines these two descriptions. Skating around while firing their weapons against a variety of adversaries, ranging from conventional humans to robot walkers throwing explosives, is the primary objective of this game. While killing enemies will refresh your health, doing tricks will refill your ammo.
In terms of the design of the level, it was important to ensure that there were no dead ends or corners in which the player may become trapped. There is always something that you can climb or jump upon that will bring you back into the fight. In the end, Roll7 wants to discover what kind of originality and style its players are capable of producing, therefore it wants to give them complete creative freedom.
The 16th of August marks the release date for Rollerdrome for PS4, PS5, and PC.
