According to a report in the Wall Street Journal that cites persons with knowledge of the situation, SEGA SAMMY Holdings is getting close to finalizing a deal to acquire Rovio Entertainment, the company that developed Angry Birds, for roughly one billion dollars.
According to the persons who spoke with the publication, the agreement might be finalized by the beginning of the following week if the negotiations do not stall out or become drawn out.
A spokesman of SEGA stated, in reaction to the report, that “No formal decision has been made regarding a deal.” SEGA is continuing to evaluate the best ways to increase the company’s corporate value.
Playtika made a public announcement in January that it was interested in acquiring Rovio Entertainment for a price of roughly $800 million, but by the end of March, those talks had come to an end without an acquisition has taken place.
