The first-person shooter and stealth game Sniper Elite 5 became available for purchase on May 26, as was previously reported. The launch platforms included personal computers (PC), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S. You can check it out on PCs and Microsoft consoles by using the Xbox Game Pass, which is where it was made available on the same day that it made its debut.
In my experience, 14 hours was more than enough time to become familiar with the plot campaign that continued Karl Fairburne’s experiences. In contrast to the favorable first impression I had of the game, I ended up becoming really exhausted while playing it, and as a result, I plan to approach the subsequent entries in the Sniper Elite series with a great deal of care. I am currently discussing the reasons why.
Sniper Elite 5 has a lot of bugs
Let me start with the technological concerns. Sniper Elite 5 gets a lot of flak on Steam for its poor optimization and game-breaking glitches. I ran into issues during the game, such as having to accomplish the primary objectives first, then the side missions. If I took on an optional task first (for example, destroying anti-aircraft guns) during one of the missions, the vehicle I was supposed to destroy (which was marked as the main target) would simply vanish from the arena, leaving me with no choice but to restart the entire mission while resetting the progress.
I saw many minor graphical mistakes while playing on a personal computer, such as other characters cutting through walls or seeing a certain section of their bodies through a locked metal fence. It also happened that the textures “jumped” in front of my eyes after I positioned the camera in the location where the problem is forced. Furthermore, the bodies of the murdered adversaries frequently displayed evidence of serious postmortem sickness, with their bodies laying on the ground performing bizarre acrobatics such as twisting their arms or legs.
The PC version of the game has been optimized as well. Even at the lowest graphics settings, the RTX 3060 Ti graphics card is incapable of maintaining at least a steady 60 frames per second in 4K resolution. Dynamic resolution technology saves the day, but the character models – from their attire to their expressions – scream for revenge to the heavens. Many people have mocked the graphics in Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong, but I can assure you that if you don’t have a particularly strong computer, Sniper Elite 5 looks even worse in many instances. And it’s not just me, but a large number of Steam users have given the new Rebellion title a poor review.
Artificial intelligence is not any wiser
Both of the aforementioned projects save meticulously designed locales that stand out among the crowd when contrasted with other components of the game. The difference is that Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong is well optimized, so even those with an ancient laptop can visit the World of Darkness and learn an intriguing story. In Sniper Elite 5, however, 60 frames per second is the absolute minimum – we frequently engage foes at greater distances, and each centimeter of sight movement to one side might impact whether we remove the enemy silently or sound the alert.
When it comes to Sniper Elite 5, opponents and maps come to mind first. They come under the radar, they don’t spot us in the thick grass (even when they’re just a few meters in front of us), and they have no idea how to act when searching for Karl Fairburne’s last known location. It’s possible to exchange them indefinitely. The challenge increases as the difficulty level increases, but the AI mindset does not alter dramatically for the better. It’s a shame because I expected the enemy to be wiser, and I expected them to surprise me – in a good way – with their attitude more than once.
The map design is the last thing I have to keep in mind. As much as I enjoyed them at first, the deeper I got into the forest, the worse they became. First and foremost, the developers, in my opinion, force the courses they have created far too much. If we do not use the routes or highways, there is a good chance that a short distance away, on a less-traveled path, we will come across a hedge that will finish its work and entirely block us. Whether we like it or not, we will not shorten or lengthen our path to the goal since Rebellion tells us where, how, and when we should go in practically every operation. Sniper Elite 4 allowed the honorees a lot more action flexibility and room to flaunt their skills. This was shortened a little in the “five,” which I find to be a disadvantage.
With Sniper Elite 5 you can have fun
I have to give Rebellion credit for a fantastic shooting model. We must consider the wind speed as well as the projectile’s flight-the farther our adversary is, the more likely the cartridge will begin to descend or gradually drift left or right. As I previously stated, any movement of the mouse, even centimeters in any direction, can determine whether we kill or miss someone. As a result, the rest of the mission is contingent on our precision. When the adversaries recognize Karl Fairburne, there’s a good probability that the rest of the mission will be calm, since the attackers will search the surrounding locations.
People who don’t want to play sniper can, of course, pull out a machine gun and eliminate the enemy they come across from a closer range. I’ve used this strategy several times, especially when I’ve had to repeat steps due to my whim or critical errors like the aforementioned disappearance of main goals, and I believe that if you’re patient and know how to use the environment (nothing prevents you from shooting at flammable barrels or hooks that hold heavy objects on the pallet), you can beat the game without ever using a sniper rifle.
The frosting on the cake is x-ray, which is a camera that switches on automatically when our shot causes significant damage to enemy corpses. A “brain hole” is the most common, but there are other shots for the heart, liver, and neck. Regardless of how it sounds, having a killcam just adds to the fun and satisfaction of taking long, accurate shots.
Sniper Elite 5 disappointed me overall, but I don’t think it’s a game to avoid. Sniper Elite 4 on steroids, on the other hand, has not always been favorably greeted by his “body.” The PC version, which I have been in touch with, is, in my opinion, the final nail in the coffin. I encountered so many issues over the 14-hour story campaign that I am currently unable to recommend it to anyone. According to gamers’ thoughts, console editions for Xbox or PlayStation, according to gamers’ thoughts, perform better in this regard, so if you want to go to France and make the Nazis’ lives miserable, you should check these platforms first.
