Sonic Frontiers, a new game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, is getting a free expansion today to celebrate the blue hedgehog’s birthday. The expansion called Sonic’s Birthday Bash introduces the New Game Plus mode, new challenges and moves, and special decorations on the Starfall islands. The add-on was announced during today’s Sonic Central presentation.
Sonic’s Birthday Bash is the second of three planned free expansions for Sonic Frontiers. The first appeared in March and introduced m. photo mode, or new challenge modes. The third expansion is set to add new story content and playable characters.
“Celebrate Sonic’s birthday on the delightfully decorated Starfall Islands! Blast your way through the party with new challenges, moves, collectible Kocos, and New Game Plus mode!” I told Sega.
Sonic Frontiers is an open-world action-adventure game that allows players to freely explore huge islands full of puzzles, secrets and enemies. The game uses the Unreal Engine 4 engine, quite good graphics and smooth animation, which is especially important for this type of game.
The game was released on November 8, 2022 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC. The game received positive reviews from critics and fans, who appreciated its innovation and faithfulness to the spirit of the series. The first Sonic game was released on June 23, 1991 for the Sega Mega Drive. Since then, Sonic has appeared in over 100 games for various platforms, as well as in films, series and comics.
