“Sonic the Hedgehog” is a powerful brand that has long transcended the video game industry. Although, of course, it was born here, over the years, as its phenomenon only grew, comics, cartoons, anime and even full-length live-action films appeared in cinemas! Nowadays, almost everyone has heard about the Super-Fast Hedgehog and you can even get the impression that despite the passage of time, its popularity is only growing.
Moreover, the results illustrate this well – even those in the context of our beloved hobby. It so happens that SEGA, which of course holds the rights to the Blue Hedgehog brand, has recently published its latest financial report. It shows that the “Sonic the Hedgehog” brand has exceeded 1.66 billion units sold. So we’re talking about a really impressive result.
To give you a better idea of the scale, the next best-selling series is Creative Assembly’s Total War, which has achieved 43.4 million copies sold in its lifetime. Third place is Puyo Puyo and 39 million. Well, comparing it with Hedgehog, we can clearly see why SEGA puts so much work into games related to this brand. We can only hope that the highest quality will always come with it.
