In 2021, the monthly activity of Steam users hit a new record with over 132 million players in the game at the same time. This is 21 million more than the PlayStation and any other platform.
The young Epic Store service is far from even the Xbox service that closes the top three – 62 million versus 100 million. But Xbox should also be praised – Phil Spencer managed to double the audience in just 5 years. And, of course, the statistics do not take into account the Nintendo eShop, in which more than 100 million owners of the Nintendo Switch alone acquire more than 100 million.
As can be seen from the statistics, the pandemic played into the hands of Steam. The latest report states that revenue has grown, that the number of active users is growing both by month and per day. Let’s see how the release of Steam Deck and improved versions of the new console will affect the popularity of the service.
Put together a monthly active user comparison chart based on Steam’s new report.
• Steam’s MAUs were higher than PlayStation’s year-end numbers
• Steam grew by 12 million MAUs in 2021Note: PSN MAUs from 2017 weren’t reported, and Epic Games Store released in December 2018. pic.twitter.com/uqa9MIMF0w
