The studio Naughty Dog has been going through some rough patches in recent days and weeks. It was reported in May that the development team working on the standalone multiplayer The Last of Us project had been reduced as a result of an internal reevaluation. The following month, Naughty Dog was also hit with layoffs, which resulted in the developer letting go of at least 25 contract employees. The standalone multiplayer The Last of Us project was billed as the most ambitious project ever undertaken by the studio.
However, despite the fact that many people may have been under the impression that the game had been scrapped, it does not appear that this was the case. Vinit Agarwal, the game director working on the multiplayer title, recently turned to Twitter to offer a quick update. In his tweet, he confirmed that the game is still in the process of being developed and stated that he is continuing to work on the project.
It was claimed the month before last that the multiplayer project had been “put on ice,” although it hadn’t been totally canceled at the time of the story. Soon after that, it became public knowledge that Anders Howard, who had been serving as the title’s principal monetization designer, had parted ways with Naughty Dog.
I did it! Wow that was hard, easily 300+ Marios dead in the process.
And so this tweet can live on in peace… yes, I’m still working on that game. pic.twitter.com/a5Avx9Xl8H
