CD Projekt RED has two intellectual properties (IPs) under its belt, namely The Witcher Trilogy and Cyberpunk, both of which have huge selling power, and the developer has highlighted precisely what that looks like in terms of pure statistics.
CD Projekt RED said in its most recent investor presentation that the combined sales of its Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher franchise games have exceeded 100 million copies worldwide. It is important to note, however, that this statistic only accounts for the sales of the core Witcher RPG series. This indicates that the sales of Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales are not accounted for in the overall amount presented above.
In addition, CD Projekt RED has announced that more than 25 million copies of Cyberpunk 2077 have already been sold around the globe. Its most recent expansion, Phantom Liberty, which was just published, racked up 3 million initial sales in its first week. In the meanwhile, the developer shared the news earlier this year that more than 50 million copies of The Witcher 3 had been sold all over the world.
Both of these established brands are already looking ahead to the next opportunities. A ground-up open-world remake of the first Witcher game is now being produced in conjunction with Fool’s Theory, while the creation of the next mainstream Witcher game, which will serve as the first installment of a new trilogy, is already underway.
The development of the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 has also begun in earnest.
