EA may no longer have exclusive rights to the Star Wars franchise, but that hasn’t stopped them from developing a number of games centered in that universe. Although DICE is not one of those teams, and Star Wars Battlefront III is not one of those games, the publisher has confirmed that there are three Star Wars titles in production. In truth, Respawn is the studio in charge of all three games’ development and production.
After months of speculation, Electronic Arts has officially revealed what’s next for the Star Wars franchise. Respawn Entertainment will be producing three new games in conjunction with Lucasfilm Games, according to the publisher. One of these is the forthcoming Star Wars Jedi game, which is being developed by game director Stig Asmussen and his crew.
EA has revealed that Respawn is presently developing on the next installment of the Star Wars Jedi action-adventure franchise. Stig Asmussen, the game’s director, is in charge of the future project. Other specifics were not given today, and we still don’t know if the sequel will be called Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 as many fans anticipate. According to rumors, the game’s full announcement will take place on May 4th, ahead of a possible release in Q4 2022.
Respawn is also working on the second game. Peter Hirschmann is the Game Director on an “all-new Star Wars first-person shooting game” this time around. Hirschmann has a long history with Star Wars games, having served as executive producer on the first two Star Wars Battlefront games. This title is still in the early stages of development.
Finally, the third title is a strategy being developed by Bit Reactor, a new firm. Greg Foertsch, a former Art Director at Firaxis who worked on games like XCOM 2, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, and the Civilization trilogy, started the studio.
“We are pleased to continue collaborating with the phenomenally talented team at Respawn,” said Lucasfilm Games VP Douglas Reilly. They’ve proven their ability to create epic Star Wars stories while also delivering best-in-class gameplay across several genres, and we’re looking forward to bringing even more incredible experiences to the galaxy far, far away.”
“Building on the prior accomplishments of our EA relationship, this new cooperation underscores the trust and mutual respect shared by the world-class teams at EA, Respawn, and Lucasfilm Games,” said Sean Shoptaw, SVP of Walt Disney Games. We will build fascinating unique games for a wide range of audiences across the Star Wars galaxy, fueled by the expertise and enthusiasm of each team.”
Though a reveal date for these titles has yet to be confirmed, we could learn more before E3 2022 (most likely on May 4th, which is a yearly celebration of the Star Wars franchise). As for the next Star Wars Jedi title, it’s rumored to be releasing in Q4 2022. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
