The Witcher Sirius, on which The Molasses Flood is focused, is already undergoing significant alterations before its formal unveiling. There are various signs that the title’s development will resume at the design stage.
In addition to the new trilogy created by the main team of the Polish studio and the remake of the first Witcher by Fool’s Theory, the production from The Molasses Flood, the makers of The Flame in the flood, CD Projekt RED revealed a number of games last year set in the climatic universe of monster hunters.
When developers from Boston were actively seeking candidates for a variety of critical positions, we used to be able to systematically find additional Project Sirius annotations. This proved that there is still a long way to go before a specific show.
Instead, CD Projekt RED released a statement addressing the write-off for The Witcher Sirius yesterday, reiterating both the transfer of the funds used and the progress being made toward creating a new project framework:
“The Management Board of CD PROJEKT SA, with its registered office in Warsaw (the “Company”), now informs that it has decided to record a write-down on the amount of the expenses invested thus far for development work associated with the Sirius project created by The Molasses Flood studio. Costs incurred up until the end of 2022 were PLN 33.4 million, and those costs will be charged to the Company’s and the CD PROJEKT Capital Group’s 2022 financial results. A charge of PLN 9.5 million will be made to the financial result for the first quarter of 2023 for the value of expenses that were previously recorded in the books in January and February 2023.
The conclusion of the review of the Sirius Project’s scope and commercial potential, as well as the ongoing efforts to define the new project structure, are what led to this decision.
There are many signs that the position did not live up to CD Projekt’s expectations, which means that the project may go back to the beginning. In order to provide the audience with a somewhat different experience, The Molasses Flood will need to rebuild the title.
It is safe to presume that any official documents from The Witcher Sirius will have to wait.
