The backlash against recent examples like Redfall and Gran Turismo 7 have served as warnings that games requiring permanent internet connections very rarely does well with the mainstream market. But the trend is here to stay, as it has been announced that a significant next game will also be an always-online game.
Forza Motorsport will need a constant internet connection, according to Turn 10 Studios. Chris Esaki, the game’s creative director, said during a recent Forza Monthly live that while some game features, including Free Play, will be accessible while offline, for the most part, the game will require a constant online connection. Everything related to game progression, including the single-player Builders Cup campaign, will be saved on Turn 10 servers.
In order to assure a fair and safe experience throughout the game, Esaki noted, “the game has been designed to easily adjust and add new content over time.” “To maintain the integrity of the overall gaming experience, any game progress will be saved on our servers. Additionally, there are alternatives for offline play, making features like Free Play always accessible. However, any advancement needs an internet connection.
With new tracks and cars being uploaded directly to the career mode in a first for the series, The Builders Cup is being marketed as a constantly changing and expanding experience that will provide players new material. Another aspect of the experience that necessitates ongoing connectivity is the improvement of Drivatars, which will follow and reflect all customisation changes made by the players they represent.
Turn 10 Studios hasn’t yet said whether it intends to provide fixes for this via post-launch patches, although as of right now, the developer hasn’t made any indication to that effect.
On October 10, Forza Motorsport will be available for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
