Blizzard announced the first story expansion for Diablo 4 and Vessel of Hatred is intended to be more than just a new location and an option to test another well-known class. The creators want to refresh the gameplay and this will be possible thanks to a new hero.
Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred will debut in the second half of 2024. This will be a big event for Diablo fans, who will finally be able to run around a brand new map, but for many players, the highlight may be another hero fighting demons in Sanctuary.
Brent Gibson talked to GamesRadar+ and during the interview, the deputy director explained that the developers did not decide to add, for example, Paladin or Shaman to the game because Blizzard wanted to offer players well-known heroes through the base game, and now it was time for some experiments.
I think it’s important to go back to what our goal was in the main game. We did a really good job of delivering the five classic classes, and the very specific power fantasies were really important – we wanted to put them to good use. I feel we did a great job.
Blizzard discussed a lot about how to expand Diablo 4, and at some point the team found itself “at a crossroads”. However, the company does not want to offer the same experience again and that is why it was decided to choose a completely new class.
The team has talked about this a lot and we really feel responsible for offering new ways to play, right? So we decided to introduce something new. And that’s the crux of where we are.
A mysterious character who will appear in Sanctuary next year is expected to completely refresh the gameplay. Currently, the developers do not intend to reveal specifics, but there are many indications that Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred may surprise loyal fans of the IP.
