It appears that the time between the release of Gears 5 and the next installment in the primary Gears of War series will be significantly longer than it has ever been before. Gears 5 was released in 2019, and despite the fact that we had an amazing expansion for the game in the subsequent years in the form of Gears 5: Hivebusters, sufficient time has passed that fans of the franchise are beginning to demand more of its cover shooting action.
And it would appear that the game, or whatever the next core installment of the Gears of War series ends up being called, is already in the process of being developed by the game’s developer, The Coalition. The Coalition has recently published a job advertisement for a motion capture technician, expressly for the purpose of working on the Gears of War franchise.
Even though there is no specific reference to Gears 6, it is reasonable to presume that this is the installment that the development team will be focusing on when it comes to this series. In fact, The Coalition was trying to hire a live design director back in December of 2021 for the Gears of War franchise. The job description stated that the successful candidate will “form and oversee our live PVP and PVE experiences on future releases.”
In any case, it would appear that the production studio is still in the very preliminary stages of this endeavor and is in the process of putting the finishing touches on it before it goes into full swing. It is also important to point out that The Coalition is known to be working on numerous projects simultaneously, one of which is a brand new intellectual property (IP). Leaks suggest that the new intellectual property will be released first before the developer shifts its focus to Gears 6 and that it will be a smaller and more experimental project. This will allow The Coalition to properly familiarize itself with Unreal Engine 5, which it recently shifted its development pipeline too.
A recent leak suggested, very intriguingly, that a remastered compilation of Gears of War, comparable to Halo: The Master Chief Collection, is also in the works.
