For years, Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto games have been critical and commercial darlings, and it’s not uncommon to see these titles sell phenomenally well, with statistics that most franchises wouldn’t even dream of surpassing at their peak. To that end, Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, has recently updated lifetime sales data for a couple of GTA games in its most recent quarterly results presentation.

Despite its enormously unfavorable critical reception and problematic launch, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition has sold way beyond anyone’s expectations, with a total of 10 million units worldwide. Take-Two claims that the game “much exceeded expectations” in terms of sales, echoing earlier statements.

Meanwhile, the perennial best-seller Grand Theft Auto 5 has sold over 160 million units (up 5 million units from the previous quarter’s sales), and with the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions planned for release next month, sales are sure to skyrocket once more.

Finally, the total lifetime sales of the brand have surpassed 370 million units, falling just short of Nintendo’s Pokemon franchise (which stands at 380 million units sold).

The next installment in the Grand Theft Auto franchise is currently in development, according to Rockstar.
