The planned Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time reboot that is being developed by Ubisoft has been in development for a considerable amount of time at this point, and the delays just don’t seem to stop coming. Although the French publisher had said in the past that the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake would be released prior to April 2023, it appears that plans have once again been altered.
Recently, Ubisoft removed the game from the online catalogs of a number of retail outlets, including GameStop and Amazon, both of which had been accepting pre-orders for the game. This effectively compelled the developer to provide an official statement regarding the delay.
“We’re happy with the work completed by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, and Ubisoft Montreal will benefit from their learnings as the new team will continue the effort to deliver a superb remake,” Ubisoft stated in a statement that was distributed to numerous media sites. As a direct result of this, we are no longer planning to release the game in FY23, and the title has been removed from the list.
Ubisoft has stated that customers who wish to cancel their pre-orders can do so by contacting the shop from which they originally purchased the item; nonetheless, the company emphasizes that progress is being made on the project.
Ubisoft encourages gamers who change their minds about their preorder to get in touch with the store where they made the purchase. They will receive regular updates from us regarding the project as it moves further in its development.
This comes just after the project transferred developers from Ubisoft’s Pune and Mumbai studios across to Ubisoft Montreal, which, as one might expect, would have had a significant impact on the development schedules.
It’s interesting to note that Ubisoft is supposedly also working hard on a future Prince of Persia game that will be in 2.5D and take inspiration from Ori.
