While there are a great number of forthcoming games that have been confirmed to be in production under the Xbox Game Studios name, there are many more that have not yet been formally announced by the company. One of these, known as Project Belfry, originally surfaced in news reports earlier this year. According to reports, the game is being developed by Stoic Studio, the same company that created The Banner Saga. It has been described as a side-scrolling action game with an art style reminiscent of Princess Mononoke.
It’s possible that fresh new information has surfaced about it. More information on the game was revealed on the Xbox Two podcast by journalist Jez Corden, who stated that the game will have some sort of cloud component, multiplayer gameplay, and a social hub akin to that of Destiny. Corden is unsure whether the multiplayer mode will be co-op or competitive when it comes to The Division 2.
Stoic Studio has also published a new job advertisement (via Twitter user @IdleSloth84), which appears to suggest that the game will also include RPG elements, with the mention of “loot and reward allocation” in the job advertisement, which also mentions “MMO or ARPG game experience” as one of its requirements, which appears to support this theory. A scaling enemy difficulty system will be implemented, and the candidate will be responsible for “collaborating with ARPG to define all of the specific weapons, gear, and elements” of the game, according to the advertisement.
Oddly, Corden also notes that the game has been in production since 2019, which implies that it is likely to be disclosed soon and that it may even go on sale this year if all goes according to plan.
If the game is actually going to be announced shortly, and the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase is scheduled for June 12, there’s a good chance we’ll learn something about it at that time as well. In any case, we’ll keep an eye out for additional information, so stay tuned.
