Sea of Stars will now be available on PS4 and PS5 with Combat System, joining previously confirmed platforms including Nintendo Switch and PC, according to Sabotage Studio. Additionally, the PlayStation Blog has posted more details about the battle. A new teaser has also been released.
Random encounters and grinding are not present in Sea of Stars. It is also seamless to move from navigation to battle. Additionally, there are no time limits in the turn-based battle, so players can make their choices without being rushed. Each of the six playable characters has four spells or skills that can be combined. Each deals one or two different damage kinds, and skills and spells can deliver AoE and multi-hit strikes.
While you’ll be depending on spells to do significant damage, physical assaults recover MP. An intriguing mechanic for enemy spells and skills is locked. The spell/skill is degraded if the locks on the visible bar are broken. You can stop the attack if you destroy every one of them.
Continual strikes also result in the accumulation of combo points. These can be combined into dual attacks that use two characters’ combined damage kinds and patterns. Combo Points are lost at the conclusion of combat, therefore it’s important to use them whenever possible (and they cost no MP).
There are also timed hits in which, depending on when the action button is pressed, the amount of damage done or suffered will change. Additionally, you can fire missiles back or even get a better food item out of your backpack. Every battle maneuver can be affected by the action button.
The last option is Boosting. A party member can absorb “live mana” created by normal assaults. This can add some magic attack to the following action and stack up to three times. This will be helpful if you run out of MP but still need to use a particular character’s magic type to deal damage. It’s also important to note that three characters can fight at once, but you can change your party at any time without losing a turn.
In 2023, Sea of Stars will be out. In the upcoming months, keep an eye out for further information.
