SIE Bend Studio, the developer of Syphon Filter and Days Gone, stated yesterday that it would be presenting a new and revised logo soon, and that logo is now available (pictured above). Community manager Kevin McAllister writes on the PlayStation Blog that the new logo is “an abstract and modern depiction of the studio’s history, location, and lifestyle.”
Bend Studio is located in Central Oregon, at the base of the Cascade Mountains, which are prominently featured in the logo. The new logo has been given a variety of treatments and modifications, which you can see below.
“We wanted to build a cutting-edge, abstract, and minimalist identity,” explains associate art director Shay Casey. “It should have a basic, high-tech shape while still representing creativity’s continual motion.” It should ideally be a logo that can be recognized by gamers on the street without the need for a wordmark. It should become instantly recognizable as a gaming symbol, similar to how a certain swoosh is recognized as a symbol of sportswear.
“With those goals in mind, we’ve taken a forward-looking approach to demonstrate Bend Studio’s technical innovation. The letterforms are sliced parallel to the leading edge of the outer symbol triangle while retaining the stability of our non-italicized mid-weight font. The Cascade icon in the symbol’s center is an abstract representation of the various mountain peaks that characterize Central Oregon’s skyline and are at the heart of our lives. A slight gap in the ‘I’ reflects one of the lumber mill smokestacks, which relates to Bend’s history as a logging town prior to its current position as an outdoor enthusiast destination.”
Surprisingly, the aforementioned PlayStation Blog post also revealed some details about the studio’s upcoming game. SIE Bend Studio stated last year that it was working on a new open-world IP that would build on the systemic open-world capabilities of Days Gone in 2019, and the developer has not only confirmed that but also that the game will have multiplayer elements.
The developer writes, “Today, we are thrilled to provide only a tidbit of news on our current project.” “We’re now working on a new IP that incorporates multiplayer and expands on Days Gone’s open-world features, but also introduces you to a completely new universe that we’re very thrilled to create for you.” We can’t wait to tell you about it when the time comes.”
It appears that the game is still in its early phases of development, so we may not hear anything else about it for a time. While the lack of a Days Gone sequel is frustrating, it is comforting to know that the company will continue to build on the merits of the 2019 release.
