We don’t know much about the third Sonic movie yet, but as you can see, SEGA and Paramount Pictures want to further develop the IP. The first details of the series with the actors “Knuckles” have just been confirmed, which will be a spin-off of previously presented stories.
Last year, SEGA and Paramount announced their desire to develop the Sonic universe, but only now have we learned about the concrete plans – Knuckles appeared in “Sonic 2: Lightning Fast” and it is this character that the series is based on.
Idris Elba will return to the role and voice the main character in the production. Adam Pally (“Happy Endings”, “The Mindy Project”) has also been attached to the production and the actor will reprise his role as Wade Whipple.
The events of “Knuckles” are placed between “Sonic 2: Lightning Fast” and “Sonic 3” – the third movie will debut on December 20, 2024.
According to the information provided, the action of the series will focus on Knuckles, who has agreed to train Wade and will treat him as “his protégé”.
John Whittington, Sonic 2: Lightning’s screenwriter, wrote the story for the Knuckles pilot and also serves as lead writer and executive producer. Brian Schacter and James Madejski help develop the story. Paramount is betting on big names as Jeff Fowler, the director of two Sonic movies, took over the role of the first episode and will serve as executive producer.
Edi Patterson (The Righteous Gemstones), Julian Barratt (Mindhorn), Scott Mescudi (Don’t Look Up) and Ellie Taylor (Ted Lasso) will return in the series.
Knuckles will debut on Paramount+. The series is currently being filmed in London.
