Free Radical Design has been working on a new installment in the Star Wars Battlefront series. The third installment could even be on the final stretch, but the publisher decided to cancel the game. One of the developers explained the situation.
Michael Barclay is currently the lead designer at Naughty Dog, but the developer has worked for, among others, Free Radical Design during his career. The creator on Linkedin confirmed that in 2007-2009 he had the opportunity to develop locations for the story mode and multiplayer of Star Wars Battlefront 3.
As you know, a lot has passed since then – Electronic Arts decided to use DICE’s talents to develop new parts of Star Wars Battlefront and Star Wars Battlefront 2, but Michael Barclay mentioned a very interesting situation. In his opinion, work on Battlefront 3 was canceled on the last straight.
I feel like it’s been long enough to come out and say that Star Wars Battlefront III was supposed to be amazing and the fact that it got canceled 2 meters from the finish line is an absolute crime. Players do not know what they have been robbed of.
I feel like it’s been long enough now to come out and say Star Wars Battlefront III was gonnae be legit incredible and the fact it got cancelled 2 yards from the finish line is an absolute crime. Gamers don’t know what they were robbed of. https://t.co/zZUu8JR3iV

The developer, in response to comments, confirmed that work on the game was nearing completion, but it’s hard to say why it was finally decided to cancel the project. It is very possible that the problem was the approach of LucasArts, which decided to leave the gaming industry for several years and the company only offered licenses to develop new titles – as we know, EA could develop Star Wars items for many years.
