One of the great things about video games is that they allow us to transport ourselves to other worlds that we wouldn’t otherwise encounter. Or at least not as immersive as we could hope for. Thanks to this medium, we can immerse ourselves in various moments in history, places for candles, as well as dates on the timeline – both in the context of the past and the future.
However, there are options that are used by developers more willingly , and those that are used very rarely. In the case of the first group, it is definitely worth mentioning feudal Japan! Both in terms of climate and the behavior of the world itself with which we are dealing. Well – there are more benefits, of course, but let’s face it, many of us reach for this magical, Asian atmosphere of the old days.
For this reason, I have prepared ten games for you today that offer us just such options. I have prepared a list in which you will find productions from completely different genres and budgets. Nevertheless, I am convinced that everyone will find something for themselves here , so without further ado – let’s go to the list, and please, Dear Readers, be sure to share your picks in the comments!
Way of the Samurai 4
Let’s start with a very interesting proposal, which is the fourth part of the series started in 2002. The task is simple – step into the shoes of a samurai in the Edo era, travel through difficult times full of wars, intrigues and agreements with other clans. Collect weapons, develop your skills and make choices that will affect the game world and the character you’ll get to know well.
Total War: Shogun 2
Lead your Japanese clan army through a dynamic campaign full of fights and diplomacy that will affect the fate of the country. Commanding your troops and mastering battle tactics are crucial to victory, but remember that the political decisions you make have an equally important impact on the outcome of the war! One of the most popular strategy games out there, and for good reason!
Nioh 2
Infiltrate the world of Japanese mythology, full of monsters, demons and legendary heroes. Create your character and develop skills to survive in a dangerous world. Combat requires precision and reflexes, and mastering different fighting styles is the key to victory. While the first part was already great in this respect, the second adequately develops the whole world and possibilities.
Ghost of Tsushima
One of the best games I’ve ever played and a production that turned out to be a brilliant closure of the PlayStation 4 era. In fact, it was hard to bounce back from Jin’s adventures if you love this atmosphere. What’s more, the open world offered us a great experience both in terms of gameplay and visuals. Honey for the eyes, honey for the heart. What more could you want? Probably just a sequel!
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
The game offers extremely difficult combat that requires precision and mastery of various fighting styles. Importantly, it was something new in the context of the genre itself and a production in which movement played a huge role. What to add here? We managed to meet the expectations of the audience both in terms of atmosphere and gameplay. Sekiro offers a fresh experience even today, so if you haven’t played it, catch up!
Bushido Blade
In this action game, the combat is based on a realistic sword fighting system, and the whole thing is, of course, very much set in samurai climates. Each hit with the sword can determine the outcome of the fight, which makes the game very exciting and makes it impossible to approach everything thoughtlessly, and each move can have a significant meaning in the context of the final course of the story.
Okami
In this action game, you take on the role of a god who must restore light and color to the frozen land of Nippon. Based on Japanese mythology and culture, the game offers unique visuals and challenging gameplay where you can stop almost every moment to admire the views around you. It can impress and still does, even after so many years from the premiere. To this day I remember the impressions from the demo on PS2 …
Onimusha: Warlords
And in this game we play the warrior Samanos, who must save his beloved and defeat the army of demons. The combat is based on a combination of melee weapons and magic, and the game offers a great feudal atmosphere to fall in love with. Although the production has its drawbacks, many of them are overshadowed by such a brilliantly created atmosphere. have you played? Probably many of you had the pleasure of checking it out!
Tenchu
I don’t think there’s much to explain here, right? We play the role of a ninja who uses numerous tools and special skills to invigilate hostile areas and carry out the missions entrusted to him. Although there are many options to complete the next levels, finding the best one is not an easy task. A classic that just needs to be played – if only for this dark and dense climate. Most views are of the highest quality!
Sengoku
In this strategic production from 2011, for which Paradox Interactive is responsible, we play the role of the leader of the Japanese clan and strive to unite the country under his rule. The game offers many diplomatic and military challenges, and each decision affects the further course of the game and the development of events in the context of our civil war. A slightly less known title, but worth attention.
