The announcements of Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun in April were impressive. In the IGN text, there was, among others: the statement that “John Carmack himself would be proud of it”. The game has already hit the market, so it’s time to see what’s left of this enthusiasm in the reviews.
IGN is less positive in its review of Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun. In the text, Jon Bolding gave the game a 7/10, criticizing the game’s overly monotonous levels and opponents. PC Gamer found more pluses in the game (rating 8.5/10). Here the editor admired the retro atmosphere of Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, emphasizing that the game is great not only for fans of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, but also for all lovers of “boomer shooters”, games made in the aesthetics reminiscent of the first Quake or other early id Software games .
A highly critical text was published by We Got This Covered. The review, which ended with a score of 4/10, criticizes basing the entire gameplay on the “Horde mode”. The levels are supposed to be based on such a mechanism of advancing waves of enemies, which supposedly gets boring quickly.
